Wigan get permission from EFL to start season

Wigan Athletic have been given the green light from the EFL to start the league season under administration.

The Latics joint administrator, Gerald M Krasner, released a short statement on the official club website.

In a conversation with the EFL on Thursday night I have been verbally informed that we have permission to start the season under the administration.

The crisis club previously had a deadline of 31 August for the club to be sold, which has now passed.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Wigan could have a new manager in the dugout. John Sheridan has been approached following failed discussions with Simon Grayson earlier this week.

Club captain Sam Morsy seems the latest player to be moving on from the DW Stadium, with a move to Middlesbrough set to be confirmed later today.
