U23s lose at Coggeshall but U18s continue impressive start at Reading
Town’s U23 side started pre-season with a defeat losing 4-2 defeat at BetVictor Isthmian League side Coggeshall Town on Saturday afternoon, with Kai Brown netting both Blues goals.
The game was played in three thirds which led to a disagreement with the officials which would result in Town staff having to officiate the final third. Referee Aaron Farmer was not willing to allow the teams to rotate their players and use roll-on, roll-off subs which resulted in a Town coach officiating the final third, with Town sub Riley Scott running the line, using a bib!
In the 20th minute, Kai Brown was tripped by David Agboola which resulted in a penalty. Kai Brown himself took the penalty but was denied by Jones, who got down to his left to parry the ball away.
Two minutes later, a Louis Ferenbach misplaced pass fell to Nnamdi Nwachuku who released a fine left-footed strike into the top corner, from 19 yards out, which gave Egan no chance.
In the 30th minute, still in the first third, Arron Drinan laid the ball into the path of Kai Brown who saw his shot smash against the underside of the bar, and keeper Jones reacted quickest to grab the loose ball.
A minute later, Brown wasn’t to be denied for a third time, Brown intercepting a back pass before finishing from a cute angle.
In the 34th minute, four minutes into the second third, Conor Hubble hard an effort from long-range which Egan did well to tip on to the woodwork but Jamie Shaw reacted first to nod the loose ball into the empty net.
With Ipswich being the better team, they equalised in the 51st minute, Drinan did well to win the ball back and release Kai Brown, who produced a fine finish to find the far corner of the net.
Coggeshall restored the lead six minutes later, when Reece Dobson produced a lovely chip from 17 yards out over Egan and into the net.
The game was put beyond Town in the 76th minute when Nawachuku latched onto a ball over the top – with Town’s appeals for offside being waved away by Jell and stand-in linesman Ryley Scott – and rounded Jake Alley before comfortably slotting the ball home.
