Town start season at Burton Albion
Town will open their 2019/20 League One campaign against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday 3rd August. The last time Town began the season on the road was in 2015 when we visited Brentford in a 2-2 draw at the start of the 2015/16 Championship campaign.
The first home match of the season against other promotion favourites, Sunderland, which will be followed by the midweek Carabao Cup tie which will be drawn this evening.
August continues with Paul Lambert’s men visiting Peterborough, AFC Wimbledon making the trip to Portman Road. Town will then be on the road at Bolton Wanderers and then a home game against Shrewsbury to complete the month.
September begins with the Blues first ever trip to Rochdale, followed by Doncaster’s visit to Portman Road. The first away midweek fixture will be at MK Dons, a trip to Gillingham and then the visit of James Norwood’s old side Tranmere Rovers completing the month.
The Blues will host Gillingham on Boxing Day and visit newly promoted Lincoln City on Sunday 29th December. Town will travel to Wycombe Wanderers on New Year’s Day, for our first competitive game between the two.
Town will host Bolton on Good Friday, then will travel to Shrewsbury on Easter Monday.
Our nearest games against Southend, are on Saturday 26th October at Roots Hall with the reverse fixture Saturday 4th April.
The run-in sees the Blues entertain Rochdale for the first time, then making the trip to Doncaster before welcoming MK Dons for our final league game of the season.
Town have been handed midweek away trips at MK Dons (Tuesday 17th September ), Rotherham (Tuesday 28th January) and the Blues’ first-ever visit to AFC Wimbledon (Tuesday 11th February) .
Town will be involved in the first round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1956/57, the game will be played over the weekend of Saturday 9th November.
The Blues will also be in the Checkatrade Trophy, that campaign will get underway week commencing 2nd September.
