Town set to sign Clarke?

Town boss Paul Lambert was reportedly at Bramall Lane at the weekend watching the FA Cup game between Sheffield United and AFC Fylde.

The reason for the trip up North could be to see striker Leon Clarke in action, with Town being previously linked with the striker. The much travelled forward has been made available by Chris Wilder and has seen his first team opportunities limited this season.

Signed from Bury for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2016, Clarke scored some crucial goals as the Blades won the League One title, before netting 19 times in 39 appearances in the second tier in the 2017/18 campaign.

Last season, Clarke spent most of the campaign on loan at Wigan Athletic when the Blades were promoted to the Premier League, scoring on three occasions for the Latics.

A powerful, experienced forward would be something that interests Lambert, with no real target man type striker currently on the books with Town. The 34 year old, who has proven to be pretty prolific in the third tier before, is available for loan or on a permanent basis.
