Town set for Clarke windfall

Town are set for a windfall reportedly around £800,000 with Matt Clarke’s move to Brighton edging ever closer to completion.

The 22-year-old was used as a bargaining chip in Ipswich’s move for Adam Webster in 2016, with Portsmouth receiving £750,000 and Clarke to secure Webster’s services.

Clarke, now into his last year of his Pompey contract, has been heavily linked away from Fratton Park and it looks like Brighton have secured his services for a reported £3.9 million.

Webster who since that deal has moved on to Bristol City, is now attracting interest from Premier League new boys Aston Villa. The Villains are very much in a market for a centre back with Axel Tuanzebe returning to Manchester United, while Bournemouth are haggling over a fee for another former blue, Tyrone Mings. Dean Smith could be turning his attention to Webster, with Bristol City willing to accept offers of around £12 million.

Town fans will be keeping a close eye on if a deal with Bournemouth or Bristol City can be made. Any deal with Mings and/or Webster will benefit Ipswich as we negotiated a sell-on (amount unknown) for both players.

Another former Town player who could be on the move is Kieffer Moore. The Barnsley striker is rumoured to be interesting Bristol City with a 10-per-cent-of-profit sell-on also understood to have been part of the deal which saw the 26-year-old move to Oakwell for £750,000 in January 2018.
