Town linked with move for duo
Town have been linked with Stockport County central defender Festus Arthur and Man City midfielder Matt Smith.
According to The Telegraph, Town, alongside Premier League side Leicester City and Championship Hull City have watched the Germany-born centre-back.
Arthur, 18, has not missed a game since October after breaking into Jim Gannon’s team earlier in the campaign.
Arthur had a spell at Glossop North End on loan last season before returning to Edgeley Park to challenge for a first-team place.
The impressive central defender is yet to sign a new deal with County and would be a free agent in the summer.
Meanwhile, according to London Evening News, Ipswich Town are among clubs believed to be considering a move for young Manchester City midfielder Matt Smith.
The Wales international, who turned 20 in November, is currently on a season-long loan at QPR but has failed to make an impact at the Championship club.
Smith, who is also understood to be interesting Sunderland, is highly rated at City and was given a new long-term contract by them prior to making the move to QPR.
At this moment in time, a move for either Arthur or Smith would appear unlikely. Town have recently added Josh Earl, who is yet to feature for Town, but could see Arthur as a signing for the future as Lambert clearly doesn’t rate Corrie Ndaba.
With Town currently well stocked in the central midfield area, any move for Smith would appear a non-starter. If the reports are true, with Man City set to recall the promising youngster, surely the currently English Champions would want Smith to get minutes during the second part of the campaign, something Town can’t offer.
