The Promotion Race: Meet the Panel

As we now enter the second part of the season, the promotion race is certainly hotting up.

We have got together a group of fans from across the country, all hoping for the same thing, promotion to the Championship come May.

Each week our panel will preview their respective fixture, chucking in their score prediction too… we will also be running our own polls to see if you agree with our ‘experts’… speaking of which, let’s meet the panel…

Rotherham United – Andrew Topham

I’ve been watching Rotherham for 35 years visiting over 70 away grounds. Season Ticket holder at The New York Stadium along with 2 of my 3 sons, Brother and Nephew.

Wycombe Wanderers – The Wycombe Way

My name is George, 18 years old, and I’ve been a season ticket holder at Adams Park for the past 4 seasons. I started to run the page on on a regular basis in December 2017 after contemplating at account like this for many months.

Running a page like this has provided me with great experiemce as I’m soon heading off to uni in September to study Sports Journalism at UCFB Wembley with a view to a career in the sports media industry.

On the field, the Wanderers have exceeded everyone’s expectations of them this season to find themselves right in the mix for automatic promotion come May, and I’m delighted to keep you up to date with Wycombe’s fortunes for the run in.

Ipswich Town – Backing the Blues

I run an Ipswich Town account on Instagram named backingtheblues. I’ve been doing this for about 10 months now and it’s all with the aim of being a sports reporter/journalist. I am a Season Ticket holder and have been for about 4 years. I absolutely love watching my club play football and I’m hoping to see the Town finish the season strong!

Oxford United – Dale Ventham

I’m Dale, Oxford United fan and writer for Vital Oxford and Last Word on Football.

I’ve been supporting the U’s for around 15 years. It started badly with relegation from League Two to the Conference, but things have drastically improved on and off the pitch since then. We won promotion back to League Two under Chris Wilder, won promotion to League One under Michael Appleton, and are flying high in the league – despite a poor start to 2020 – under Karl Robinson.

Sunderland – Chris (SunderLAD)

Former Army Officer. Born and raised in Sunderland. Grew up in the shadow of the old Roker Park. Has red and white blood coursing through his veins as well as a unique sense of humour.* *Very handy when supporting Sunderland.

Coventry City – The Nii Lamptey Show

The Nii Lamptey is a Coventry City fan podcast that is into it’s 8th year despite an overwhelming lack of interest. Over the years the podcast has been described variously as ‘miserable’, ‘made by people who aren’t proper fans’ and (my personal favourite) ‘a bit too gay’.

Each week (sort of) we talk about the events and match(es) of the previous week or so, preview our upcoming opponents and generally ramble on about whatever is in our heads.

Ultimately, we’re not getting paid so no one can stop us. Being a football fan can at times be a roller-coaster but listening to the Nii Lamptey Show is very much a brisk stroll through a suburban cul de sac. But a cul de sac in Coventry Or Birmingham or Northampton depending on what season it is!

Burton Albion – BurtonBible

I started supporting Burton in 2008 when we were still in the conference and I’ve been a season ticket holder since 2012. I took over the running one BurtonBible two years ago as a way to give my thoughts on the club.

Portsmouth – Sam Stone

I have been a Pompey fan since I was 5 years old, with my first game being Watford at home back in the ‘glory’ days of the Premier League, What a ride it has been since then! Regular trips to Wembley, a European tour, points deductions, relegations and League titles.

Currently I study Sports Journalism at Brighton University. I started writing features for Pompeynewsnow last season and this season have made my debut on Express fm (Pompeylive), where I have the pleasure of casting my views live on air, on match days. My most recent appearance was last weekend away at Bolton. I also appear regularly on the Po4cast, a weekly Pompey podcast.

It has been an interesting season so far, with Pompey really struggling at the beginning of the campaign. However, we are slowly but surely turning a corner. It is an Incredibly tight League this season. Anyone who puts a run together in the 2nd half of the season will undoubtedly give themselves a great chance.

Doncaster Rovers – Adam Stubbings

My name is Adam Stubbings, I’m the founder of Rovers fansite Into The Empty Net (ITEN) and have been a supporter of Doncaster Rovers for 21 years, since the tender age of 6. I started ITEN in 2015 as an unofficial journalistic voice of the fans and have overseen steady growth to the point where the site is now a go-to outlet for Rovers supporters and beyond.

Peterborough United – Jarred Farmer

I have supported Posh for over 20 years – first ever game was away at Notts County where he nearly choked to death on a hot dog. I have been involved in the Yellow Block podcast since the start, but have been recording various podcasts/local radio for around 7 years.

Fleetwood Town – Ben (Knappers)

I’m Ben, I’m 17 I attend every game home and away with my club I started watching in 2009 had season ticket since 2012. I also do videos on each game we play giving my opinions.
