Terriers cool interest in Szmodics, could Town re-enter the race?
Huddersfield Town do not consider Sammie Szmodics a priority signing this January, according to new reports.
Huddersfield were favourites to sign Szmodics on loan for the remainder of the season but according to Examiner Live, The Terriers do not currently consider a move for Szmodics to be a high priority and a deal is therefore unlikely as it stands.
This could leave the door open for Town to re-enter the race for Szmodics, although Hull City are still interested in the playmaker, however Lee Johnson’s preferred destination for the forward would be the Terriers, Bristol Live understands.
The former Colchester man joined the Robins from the U’s last summer but has made only two starts and two sub appearances.
Bristol City boss, Lee Johnson, has all but confirmed a loan move would be ideal for both Bristol City and Szmodics with the attacking midfielder failing to hold down a starting place in the Robins’ squad.
“Sammie Szmodics, for example. Very consistent in training, very consistent human. Hasn’t quite taken to the level of the Championship that we’d hope he had like in pre-season but at the same time he hasn’t really had the run.” Johnson told Bristol Live.
One Championship club who are rumoured to be interested is Hull City. Speaking about a potential move, Tigers’ manager Grant McCann played down speculation, although there is interest from the City.
“I’m sure Lee (Darnbrough, Hull City’s head of recruitment) is working hard behind the scenes and as soon as an agent phones you with a player, or you phone an agent asking about a player, sometimes agents can be a wee bit busy and put that into papers,” said McCann to Hull Live.
“I’m sure you’ll see loads of speculation coming up from now to January so we don’t take too much notice of that.
