Reports: Town linked with Bristol Rovers striker

Ipswich Town are understood to be interested in Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Clarke-Harris, 25, scored 16 league goals for The Gas last season before the season ended and according to Bristol Live, is attracting interest from Town.

The forward joined Rovers following his second spell at Coventry City in 2019 and has averaged better than a goal every other game with the Pirates, netting 27 goals in just 49 games.

Clarke-Harris has spent time at several clubs including Rotherham, Peterborough, Oldham and Doncaster and with his contract up in 2021, Rovers could be tempting to cash in on their star player or risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Championship club Charlton were rumoured to be interested in the striker in January, but no bid was officially lodged and Clarke-Harris remained with Rovers.

However, the London club are understood to be still interested in the 6ft striker alongside an unnamed promotion chasing club from League One.

Signing a striker is high on Paul Lambert’s summer targets, with Sunderland’s Charlie Wyke linked earlier this week.

Lee O’Neill has confirmed in recent interviews that a striker is one of the main priorities this summer and that money is available if needed, with the possibility of Clarke-Harris being available for under £1m.

Clarke-Harris would certainly add to the Town frontline, with Kayden Jackson, James Norwood and Freddie Sears the only senior strikers at the club, having released Will Keane last month.
