Reports: Football return agreed in principal with government
It has been reported that an agreement in principal has been made between the government and the Premier League to resume football in June, dependent on the progress of the coronavirus.
Mirror Sport claim that the Premier League are aiming to return to action in early June, with games played behind closed doors – and the EFL are likely to follow suit.
They claim that a ‘tentative’ agreement to resume games in this manner has been given the green light by the government, but will depend largely upon how the outbreak of COVID-19 progresses.
The plan would see games played under strictly-controlled conditions behind closed doors with discussions with TV companies ongoing on how the games will be broadcasted.
Last week, UEFA urged the completion of all domestics competitions at the earliest possible safest date, something which the Premier League used as a catalyst for their meeting last Friday.
