Richard Keogh has joined League One rivals MK Dons after reportedly interesting Town.
Earlier this week Town were reportedly showing interest in the former Derby County defender with Paul Lambert understood to be a fan of the 33-year-old.
The experienced defender was sacked by Derby last October following a night out which included former Town loanee Tom Lawrence and is still in a legal battle with the Rams.
However, Keogh has opted to sign for the MK Dons with Dons manager Russell Martin believing his new central defender turned down more lucrative offers elsewhere.
“He probably turned down more lucrative offers to play here and, for me, it’s a massive signing and it’s a statement from him to say he wants to be part of it. He’s been my number one target in that position for a long time – so I’m delighted to have it over the line.” Martin told MK Dons Official site.
Despite Town’s interest in Keogh, it is unlikely Lambert will add a central defender with Luke Woolfenden, Luke Chambers, James Wilson and Toto Nsiala all senior options available to the Town boss.
