Reaction: Lambert, Wilson & Appleton react to Town’s win against The Imps
We catch up with all the reaction as Luke Woolfenden’s first senior goal sent Town top of the table against Lincoln.
Lambert: Great Display
Town boss Paul Lambert, spoke to the official website after watching his side return to the top of League One with a win against Lincoln.
We were excellent and without doubt deserved to win,” said the Town boss.
“It was relentless in the first-half and we could have scored one or two before we did.
“It was one of the top three performances of the season for me against a good team who have been in good form.
“It was a great goal from Woolfy. He is playing really well, Flynn Downes as well. I thought he was outstanding.
“All of the lads really. It was a terrific display, the way we are functioning at the moment is first class. The guys on the bench as well, they are pushing the players with the shirt when they come on.”
Wilson: Deserved the win
Former Imps defender James Wilson, believed Town thoroughly deserved the three points after grinding out a 1-0 win over Lincoln at Portman Road this afternoon.
“We had to grind it out because we couldn’t quite get the second goal but we definitely desrved to win,” Wilson told iFollow Ipswich.
“I thought we played well in the first half particularly and could have been a couple of goals ahead but it was important to go into half-time with a lead at least.
“It was brilliant to get the clean sheet too, and obviously that gives you a far better chance of winning the game which we did.
“The fans were very much behind us and that helped because we need to make sure our home form is right at it through until the end of the season.
“It’s just another three points but of course the fact that it took us back to the top of the table fills us with confidence. Now we have to stay there.”
Appleton: Needed to be more clinical
Lincoln gaffer Michael Appleton, thought his side could have been more clinical in the final third against a very organised Town side.
“We needed to be better in the final third, the opportunities that came our way in the first half, with two v two and three v two situations where we had an opportunity to hurt them and score two goals in the first half.” Appleton told the Official Website.
Despite losing the game, Appleton was pleased at how they restricted the new league leaders in front of goal.
“They really only made Josh work once in the second half, there was a shot from Luke Garbutt and it was a fantastic save from Josh but apart from that there was crosses in the box and defending a few free kicks. There was a lot of huffing and puffing from them without any real quality, it’s just that when we did turn the ball over we have to make better decisions.”
