Lambert: Butcher great for the Club
Town boss Paul Lambert belives the arrival of Terry Butcher will be great for the whole club.
Butcher, 61, was rumoured to be joining Paul Lambert’s staff on social media earlier this week and the move being all but confirmed a few days ago.
The Town legend and former England skipper is taking up a role that will see him primarily work with the Academy players at Playford Road but Blues’ boss sees Terry having a benefit to first-team players as well.
“It’s great for the Club, Terry coming in. Having all the legends around, Terry, George [Burley], Warky [John Wark], Matt Holland, that’s great,” Lambert told the Club website.
“Everyone, the kids, the senior guys can gain from having Terry around the place with what he achieved in the game, not just at Ipswich but with England and throughout his career.
“He’ll be coaching across the Club but just having him around, having a cup of tea with him and talking to him about the game can be a benefit.”
Since retiring from the game, Butcher has had numerous coaching and managing roles. With spells at Coventry, Sunderland and Brentford, alongside spells north of the border with clubs including Motherwell, Inverness and Hibs. Butcher also assisted former Town boss George Burley as Scottish manager in 2008.
Brilliant bit of news this, if only he could put his boots back on again!
