Have a pint on Lambert
The first 125 supporters to enter the FanZone for Saturday’s game against Sunderland will get a free drink courtesy of Paul Lambert.
The Town boss has put some cash behind the bar as a gesture of thanks to the Blue Army as the season gets underway at Portman Road with a big crowd expected.
“I’m told there will be 20,000 and more at the game. That is incredible support again,” Paul writes in his column in Saturday’s matchday programme.
“It was the same at Burton last week. Our supporters filled the place and created a great atmosphere. They were worth the entrance money alone.
“I’ve put a few quid behind the bar in the FanZone for the Sunderland game just to show my appreciation again for the support I’ve had personally.
“We had Blue Action up at the training ground during the week for a chat. We all want the same thing, success for Ipswich Town and I’m sure there will be a fantastic atmosphere here on Saturday.”
The FanZone opens at midday, with the first 125 through the gate given a voucher per person which can be used to purchase a free drink at the bar. One voucher per drink.
Town midfielder Jack Lankester will be in the FanZone later to sign autographs, with live music and other activities planned.
The 19-year-old will be doing a signing session and posing for photos from 1pm until 1.30pm ahead of Blues’ first home game of the campaign.
Almost 22,000 supporters are expected at Portman Road, and there is plenty going on in the FanZone to keep fans of all ages entertained.
There will be live music from STYG – a four-piece classic rock band, live football with Leeds United v Nottingham Forest on the big screens [kick-off 12.30pm] and a live broadcast from BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch crew.
IpswichFit will be delivering dodgeball and boccia, while there will also be face painting, penalty shoot-outs and a bouncy castle for the kids.
Boots2Africa will be collecting old football boots, trainers and kits so please bring along any unwanted items.
Finally there will be a ‘Guess the Gate’ competition for the chance to win an official matchday programme signed by James Norwood.
