Garbutt: We couldn’t have asked for a better start
Toffee loanee Luke Garbutt was delighted with his start to life at Town with three points against Burton.
Luke Garbutt described Town’s 1-0 opening day win over Burton Albion as the perfect start to the season and his career with Blues.
The Everton loanee opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a deflected strike and that was enough for Paul Lambert’s side to take all three points at the Pirelli Stadium.
“I thought we did well today and we can’t ask for a better start than that,” Luke told iFollow Ipswich.
“It’s nice to get off the mark so early on in the season, and obviously with the backing that we had from the away fans, it was really good to get off the mark and show them what I can do,” he said.
“There’s nothing like seeing the ball hit the back of the net on the opening day of the season and I’m really pleased to have contributed to the win today.
“Whether it’s mine or whoever’s we’ve won the game and that’s the most important thing.
“I thought the fans were incredible today too. The noise was unbelievable and they backed the lads for the entire game. I can’t wait to get out there at Portman Road next Saturday for a big game against Sunderland.”
When asked he thought Town were worthy winners, Garbutt replied: “Yes, 100 per cent, I think we controlled the game for most periods.
“They’re going to have a few spells. Woolfy had a good clearance off the line in the last couple of minutes but that was about it really.
“Obviously the keeper [Tomas Holy] nearly messed up but that’s just something that could happen in a game.
“But apart from that, I thought in spells, especially in the second half when we got the ball down and passed it and dominated possession, we could have had a couple more goals, and all in all it was a pretty decent day at the office.”
