Garbutt: Pleased with second half performance
Luke Garbutt said he was pleased to get more minutes under his belt as Town drew 0-0 with Cambridge United in their final pre-season fixture at the Abbey Stadium.
The Everton loanee was introduced to the action at half-time and is now raring to go as Blues kick-off the regular season away to Burton Albion next Saturday.
Garbutt who was introduced at half-time said: “I thought we started a little bit slow and then second half, we upped it and created a few chances and the gaffer was pleased with how we played in the second half. We need to be a little bit more clinical in front of goal – which will come.”
When asked about Downes’s late red card, Garbutt said: “I can’t really comment on the issue to be honest. I’ll leave that to whoever deals with that type of thing.
“From my point of view, I just wanted to focus on the game and that was a little bit of a situation that arose. I think all parties are dealing with it.
“Flynn played well, he’s a good player. His performance was good, he was his usual self, energetic, up and down – that’s all I can comment on.”
Speaking on his reflection on the game, Garbutt added: “We were a bit slow to get going but we start the season next weekend so you don’t want to take too many risks. I was pleased to get another 45 minutes in the bank.
“I came into pre-season a little bit later but the lads have welcomed me brilliantly and I feel like it’s been good for me and the team. I’m itching to go now.
“The fans were brilliant today as well, and I’m looking forward to seeing them in full voice at Burton.”
