Garbutt out of Sunderland clash

Town boss Paul Lambert has confirmed that Luke Garbutt will miss Saturday’s clash at Sunderland.

The on-loan Everton man was substituted early on in last weekend’s defeat against Peterborough with a thigh strain and will be forced to sit out the clash at the Stadium of Light and probably Tuesday’s visit to AFC Wimbledon.

“The good news is that it’s not as bad as we first feared with Luke,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“He’s definitely out for Sunderland and Tuesday is probably too early as well. We’ll see but he won’t be out for long.

“It’s a blow because he’s been great for us. I’ve been really happy with his performances. He’s scored goals and has got a few assists as well. It’s disappointing not to have him available but that’s football and it gives someone else a chance.”

This is a big blow for Town, who will want to return to winning ways after back to back defeats against Rotherham and Peterborough.

Earlier on this week, we looked at potential options without Luke Garbutt and the suspended Gwion Edwards, who Town will be without after the Welshman picked up his tenth yellow card on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Lambert also gave an update on injured duo Kane Vincent-Young and Danny Rowe: “Kane [Vincent-Young] and Danny [Rowe] are making good progress but they’re still a little bit away.”

“Kane is doing really well and making good progress,”

“If he continues as he is, he may be back by the end of the month. He’s a very fit lad so we will see from there how quickly we can re-introduce back into the first-team.

“It was a blow losing him at the time because he had been excellent for us but hopefully he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
