Dozzell rescues a replay against Lincoln
Andre Dozzell’s first goal of the season gave Town a replay at Sincil Bank on Wednesday 20th November.
The midfielder finished superbly 16 minutes from time after the Imps had taken a first-half lead through Tyler Walker.
The Nottingham Forest loanee and son of former England international Des Walker, had the chance to extend Lincoln’s lead when they were handed a penalty but Norris kept out his spot-kick. Three minutes later, Dozzell struck.
Only Will Norris remained from the team that beat Rochdale in midweek as Paul Lambert used his squad, Emyr Huws taking the captain’s armband for the first time in his career.
Norris was called into action early on, diving low down to gather from Jack Payne’s strike, his counterpart, Josh Vickers followed suit to keep out Will Keane’s effort after he had been set up by Flynn Downes.
Former Imp, James Wilson, cleared as Jake Hesketh looked to get in, Bruno Andrade forced away from danger after a cross had slipped by the Town defence, then Myles Kenlock’s cross was dealt with as Keane threatened at the back post.
Keane was inches away from getting on the end of Anthony Georgiou’s driven cross, Lincoln responding with Walker having a shot blocked inside the Town box, the striker then heading over from Hesketh’s delivery.
Janoi Donacien opened up the Lincoln defence with a terrific cross that Georgiou volleyed back into the danger area, Jason Shackell just ahead to clear but on the break the Imps had a gilt-edged chance, Andrade finding Hesketh 15 yards out but the striker fired high and wide.
Lincoln were getting some joy down their right and it was from that outlet that the deadlock was broken on 37 minutes, Walker finishing in style after Andrade had got clear again to give the visitors a half-time lead.
Kenlock got the second-half underway with a left foot effort that was smothered away from danger by Payne before Lincoln made an early change, Ellis Chapman on for Michael O’Connor.
Norris saved from Hesketh, the ‘keeper then first to Payne’s threaded ball as Walker looked for a second, Downes responding for Town with a powerful drive at Vickers.
Keane headed over from Georgiou’s cross, Dobra’s goalbound effort was beaten out, then from the break Lincoln could have extended their lead but Norris was equal to the task, denying Walker from close range.
Huws smashed a right footer over, Town making a first change midway through the half with Dobra making way for Gwion Edwards.
Town pressed for an equaliser, Keane found space from Downes’ clever pass, his cross beating everyone, Huws repeating the feat seconds later from the other flank, his shot going just wide of the far post as Keane looked to slide the ball home.
Lincoln continued to carry a threat on the break though, Andrade seeing a shot deflected over and on 74 minutes the Imps were handed the chance to make it two from 12 yards after Toto Nsiala brought down Hesketh but Norris stood upright to beat out Walker’s penalty, the taker hooking the rebound wide.
Three minutes later Town were level, Kenlock the provider and Dozzell eased the ball into the net with a sublime finish into the far corner.
Blues looked for a winner, Downes spun and sent 20 yarder just wide before making way for Danny Rowe, Kenlock wide with a right foot drive.
James Norwood replaced Georgiou in Town’s final throw of the dice, Shackell denied by Huws’ goalline clearance but even the five minutes of added on time couldn’t separate the sides.
