Colchester have confirmed the signing of former Town stopper Dean Gerken. The ‘keeper has been training with the U’s for the past couple of weeks, and is starting in their friendly at Cefn Druids.

The 34-year-old came through the youth system at Colchester and made 126 senior appearances during his first spell with the North Essex club before moving on to Bristol City in 2009.

The Rochford-born keeper joined Ipswich following a trial in the summer of 2013 and went on to make 113 starts for the Blues.

Town and Colchester meet in a friendly at the Jobserve Community Stadium this Friday, the two clubs also facing each other in the group stages of the EFL Trophy in the week commencing November 11.

Meanwhile, David Ball has signed for New Zealand side Wellington Phoenix on a two year deal. The former Rotherham man was linked with a number of clubs, including Town earlier this summer.
