Chambo: Time for a settled side
Speaking after Sunday’s defeat at Lincoln City, Town skipper Luke Chambers believes now is the time to keep a settled side and focus on Ipswich Town rather than the opposition or the next game.
A lot has been made of Lambert’s rotating side this season, not naming an unchanged side yet this season. Many teams who Town have come up against are inferior in-terms of ability, but yet they have managed to get results against Town due to the teamwork they have.
Each of the players know what their jobs are and the relationships built between the players results in a greater force than talented individuals being swapped and changed. It could be worth mentioning that Lincoln named an unchanged side after suffering a 1-0 defeat at Oxford on Boxing Day.
There has also been times this season where Lambert has prioritised upcoming games instead of getting the initial game won. A prime example is the recent Boxing Day draw with Gillingham, resting Flynn Downes for the Lincoln match. Surely you get the game won against the Gills with your strongest available squad and then assess that after the match.
That is the same view as skipper Luke Chambers, speaking to EADT, Chambers responded when asked about if having a settled side would help: “Yeah, absolutely. Go again, go again, go again and see where it takes us. We’re not going to worry about anyone else from this day forward. We’re going to worry about Ipswich Town and see where it takes us.”
